Join Mary Beth Barber as she discusses how bureaucracies are often given direction to change course and make improvements, yet find complications in imparting meaningful change in a timely and positive direction. This is particularly noticeable in regional government bodies - like a state's prison and parole system - and with systematic changes for loosely organized local-government entities - like with education and local libraries. Mary Beth will explain how her 17 years in California state government agencies as a project coordinator (arts, corrections, education, libraries) dovetailed with an evening MBA program, allowing her to examine overlooked area of the change process from the inside of government agencies. Participants will gain insights on how leaders, employees and advocates can examine the day-to-day operations as a key component of the change process in addition to legislation and budget.
